A Special Person Helping Special Needs Kids

The COVID-19 pandemic abruptly took children out of school, altering their learning environment drastically. Adjusting to home school is a big change for every family but is especially challenging for children with special needs. Daliana, a first and second grade teacher to bilingual special needs children at Public School 48 in Buffalo, went out of her way to take care of her students during quarantine.

“My students really need the extra support they get in the classroom to learn the material and progress in their educational journey,” said Daliana. “I wanted to do something that would help them while they were stuck learning from home.” Daliana’s husband drove her house-to-house as she visited every one of her students and gave them a care package consisting of special instructions and workbooks to help them continue to learn – along with goodie bags to lift their spirits.

So far, she has made the rounds twice and she can’t wait until she can see her students again inside the classroom. Until then, she will support them at a distance in any way she can.
